Storage well drilling on lake peigneur

When Strata LLC was tasked with natural gas storage well drilling on Lake Peigneur, they selected Flexifloats to support their 1,500 hp drilling rig. A 110’ x 210’ x 7’ S-70 Flexifloat assembly was designed to support the 1,000,000-pound drill rig and its associated equipment and materials. The configuration also had a 10’ x 20’ moon pool designed into the arrangement to accommodate the drilling operation. The total weight on the assembly came in at approximately 3,000,000 pounds and was operating in only 6 feet of water.
Flexifloat has a long history of providing Flexifloat assemblies for oil and gas drilling. The first large oil and gas application for Flexifloat was on the first “marine” well drilled on the Great Salt Lake by Amoco in 1978. Other marine wells have been drilled from Flexifloats in Texas, Peru, Suriname, and the Congo River in Africa.
