Dredging Chatfield Reservoir

Reservoir Reallocation

Littleton, Colorado
Four Flexifloat barge assemblies were used for dredging operations on Chatfield Reservoir in a suburb of Denver.  Inland Marine Services and Kelley Trucking worked jointly to dredge and relocate a marina in the preparation of increasing the water storage capacity of the reservoir for the Chatfield Reallocation Storage Project.

Both H-50 and S-50 Series equipment was utilized for two spud barges and two transports.  A 60’ x 30’ x 5’ spud barge was designed to support an 80,500-pound CAT 336 D L hydraulic excavator for dredging operations. The other was a “U”-shaped, 45’ x 52.5’ x 3.8’ configuration used for removing anchor clusters with the same model excavator.  60’ x 30’ x 5’ and 52.5’ x 30’ x 3.8’ transport barges carried 40 and 26-ton capacity articulated haul trucks, respectively. Loading Ramp attachments provided a smooth roll-on/roll-off operation at the shoreline for the rubber-tired vehicles.
